The spiritual yoke Jesus offers us is light—granting peace and a restful spirit. We simply weren't created to carry heartache and troubles on our own. Dr. Stanley explains how we can experience the assurance of the Lord’s presence and power in our lives. When we surrender, He responds: “Trust Me, and there’s nothing we can’t handle together. Walk with Me, and you will never be alone.”
Sermon Outline
When it comes to burdens, no one can relieve them better than the Lord. That’s His promise to us as believers. Today, Dr. Stanley discusses the peace we have from Jesus, our loving Savior.
Key Passage: Matthew 11:28-30
Supporting Passages: Mark 10:46; John 4:5-6; John 14:27; Hebrews 13:5
Every time you open the Word of God, He has something to say. It’s a constant opportunity to read His invitations and rest in His promises.
► “Jesus doesn’t promise your burden will go away, but He’ll make it easier.”
Getting under the wrong kind of yoke is all too easy to do.
Its load can make us feel weary and heavy-laden, but Jesus offers us something different (Matt. 11:28-29).
To yoke yourself with Jesus is to get your relationship right with Him.
When you receive Him as Savior and yield to Him as Lord, He promises to bear the weight of your burdens.
His yoke is an offer of freedom—one we’re meant to live under.
Jesus understands burdens.
While on earth, He was surrounded by people in need (Mark 10:46).
He was human and became physically weary (John 4:5-6).
► “You wake up every morning—it’s you and Jesus. You go to bed every night—it’s you and Jesus. It’s all about a relationship.”
The yoke of Jesus …
Is a spiritual device, which has no weight and offers rest.
Implies a certain amount of work will be done, as when two oxen are hitched together.
Involves learning.
Requires trust.
Includes His promised presence (Heb. 13:5).
Necessitates surrender.
Bestows His peace, which is different from the world’s peace (John 14:27).
Requires a choice.
► “When you’re under the yoke of Jesus—walking with and obeying Him—the Savior is your load-bearer.”
To be yoked with Jesus, we must …
Acknowledge that we need Him.
Receive His forgiveness.
Walk at His speed and in the same direction.
Live according to His will.
